   South Africa, Sept. 1995: The Pope made his first official visit to South Africa during a six-day trip that included Kenya and Cameroon.
    Congo, Zaire,May 1980, Aug. 1985: The Pope visited the Democratic Republic of the Congo, formerly Zaire, twice during tours of the African continent.
     Kenya, May 1980, Aug. 1985, Sept. 1995: The Pope visited Kenya three times while on separate tours of Africa. During his 1995 visit, he was in Kenya for the closing of the Special Assembly for Africa of the Synod of Bishops
    Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, Sept. 1990: The pontiff visited Rwanda during a nine-day tour of Africa that included Tanzania, Burundi, Cote d'Ivoire, Nairobi
    Zambia, Madagascar, La Reunion, Malawi: April 1989: The Pope visited Zambia during an eight-day tour that included Madagascar, La Réunion, and Malawi.
    Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Mozambique, Swaziland: Sept. 1988: The Pope spent 10 days visiting Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique and Swaziland.
   
Mauritius, Oct. 1989: The Pope visited Mauritius during a four-day tour that included South Korea and Indonesia.
