Saint Veronica

When Christ fell on his way to the Golgotha, a woman wiped his face with a towel; an image of Christ remained on the towel.
This woman was Veronica, this incident is all we really know about her, and the relic has become her symbol ever since.

"Veronica" is not actually the name a woman. Tradition tells the story of the Sixth Station. Then, the woman went to Rome, bringing with her this image of Christ on her veil, which was long exposed to public veneration. In Rome, the image was called the "true image" ("vera icon"), and from "vera icon" the ordinary language soon made "veronica"
